This post shares a good activity to foster the conversation about the Scrum roles and their responsibilities. Please find below the Flipchart prepared for the Roles and Expectations activity for the Scrum team roles.

I used this activity on a Scrum workshop. It was really useful to get everyone talking about the Scrum roles and their responsibility.

Running the activity

  1. Create a template as per the image
  2. Split the participants into 3 groups: SM, PO and Team member
  3. Each group assumes one Scrum role, and has to answer (air on post-it) the following  questions: What do I expect from the other roles?, and What do I do?
  4. Select one role, read the post-its and have a conversation about it: each group responds what they expect from the role (e.g. for the PO role conversation, first the SM group talks about what they expect from the PO, then the Team Member group talks about what they expect from the PO, then the PO group talk about what the PO does)

This blog post is not intended to answer each Scrum role responsibility, but to share a good activity to foster the conversation about the Scrum roles and their responsibilities.

This activity was great for aligning and adjusting expectation about the Scrum roles. It did foster some really good conversations.
